A good friend of our family had a massive stroke last week.
She is 52 years old.
She suffered massive damage to the right side of her brain. She is hospitalized on a ventilator. It looks like she will live. Her body is paralyzed on the left side.
She has four children under the age of 14, and her husband passed away from cancer two years ago.
My heart breaks for her, the children and her family.
You know the worst part?
This was totally preventable. A blocked carotid artery can be detected with a screening.
I am fortunate to meet so many people at Bionicc Body Screening who are proactive with their health. They choose to be in control of their health. They choose to be proactive rather than reactive, and that’s why they get a full body MRI screening.
The flipside is that I also hear many heartbreaking stories of loss — husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost family members much too early to strokes, ruptured aneurysms and most often, cancer.
Cancer is the most common reason I hear by far. Many of the stories are due to late detection. Someone they love discovers stage four cancer, and they are gone within months.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Our healthcare system is not perfect – far from it.
However, there are available tools to prevent many unnecessary losses.
Colonoscopies, mammograms, Pap smears, PSA tests and chest scans are available through a doctor, and routine cancer screenings should never be missed.
Carotid arteries can be evaluated with a simple ultrasound.
Screenings save lives.
My grandfather died of lung cancer. It was discovered in stage four.
My grandmother died of a ruptured aneurysm that she never knew existed.
My father battled non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma with tumors the size of softballs silently growing inside of him, and then battled a brain tumor a year after putting his cancer into remission.
The losses of my family aren’t unique. I hear similar stories much too often from the people entering our full body MRI screening facility, Bionicc Body Screening.
A full body MRI screening scans the body from the top of the head to the thighs.
It’s like having a “superpower” that lets you see inside your body and detect potential problems before they even surface. It’s a proactive approach to health management that empowers you with knowledge and peace of mind.
A full body screening can detect aneurysms, risk of stroke, tumors in stage one, and hundreds of other issues.
Some people say, “I don’t think I’d want to know if something was wrong,” and choose to avoid screenings.
Guess what?
They’re going to find out one way or the other. Problems can either be discovered early through screenings, or late through symptoms. Early detection leads to quicker treatments, easier treatments and better outcomes.
It’s a new start in a new year. Take care of yourself. Talk to your doctor about that routine screening you’ve been avoiding. Get it scheduled. Get it done.
