Full Body MRI Scans in Michigan From The Leaders in
Whole Body MRI Screening

Full Body MRI Screenings Catch Silent Issues Early

In today's world, where health is a top priority, wouldn't it be incredible to have a "superpower" that lets you see inside your body and detect potential problems before they even surface? That's precisely what a preventative full body MRI screening offers – a proactive approach to health management that empowers you with knowledge and peace of mind.

What is a Full Body MRI Screening?

A full body MRI screening, also known as a whole body MRI scan, complete body MRI and total body MRI scan, is a cutting-edge medical imaging technique that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create incredibly detailed pictures of your internal organs, tissues, and systems.

Unlike traditional X-rays or CT scans, MRI doesn't involve ionizing radiation, making it a safe and non-invasive procedure.

During a full body MRI, you'll lie comfortably on a specialized bed that slides into a large, tunnel-shaped machine. While the machine may make some rhythmic tapping sounds, you can wear headphones to listen to your favorite music or relaxing sounds. The scan itself is painless and typically takes about 70 minutes.

Full body MRI screenings are capable of detecting hundreds of abnormalities, including tumors in stage one: before cancer spreads and when there are no symptoms.

The number one reason people are getting whole body MRI scans is to be proactive with one's health. The biggest concern is cancer -- patients want to know they do not have any tumors silently growing inside their bodies. MRI can detect tumors the size of a pea before experiencing symptoms. By the time symptoms from cancer are experienced the disease is almost always advanced.

Why Consider a Whole Body MRI?

In a world where we strive for preventative care, full body MRI screenings provide a unique advantage in early detection and comprehensive health assessment.

Here's why it's gaining popularity:

Early Detection is Key: Imagine finding a small leak in a dam before it bursts. Similarly, full body MRI can detect early signs of diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurological conditions, often before you experience any symptoms. Early detection dramatically improves treatment outcomes and increases the chances of successful recovery.
Cancer Screening: Full body MRI can identify tumors in their earliest stages, even when they are too small to be detected by other methods. This is particularly valuable for individuals with a family history of cancer or other risk factors. Whole body MRI screenings are an additional tool and do not replace routine cancer screenings a doctor may order like colonoscopies or mammograms.
Cardiovascular Disease: MRI can assess the health of your heart and carotid arteries, identifying potential issues like blockages, aneurysms, and heart abnormalities.
Neurological Conditions: MRI provides detailed images of the brain and spinal cord, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions like multiple sclerosis, stroke, and brain tumors.
Comprehensive Health Insights: Think of it as a complete "map" of your body, revealing not just one specific area but providing a holistic view of your overall health. This allows healthcare professionals to identify a wide range of potential issues, even those unrelated to your initial reason for the scan.
Peace of Mind: In an age of uncertainty, taking control of your health can bring immense peace of mind. A full body MRI offers reassurance, knowing that you're proactively taking steps to safeguard your well-being. It's an investment in your long-term health and quality of life. This is especially true as we age and hit certain milestones. This is different for everyone. Most people choosing whole body MRI scans are around 60 years of age and older. However, plenty of individuals are getting them done in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.
Personalized Medicine: Every individual is unique, and a full body MRI can provide personalized insights into your health. This information can guide your healthcare provider in recommending tailored prevention strategies, lifestyle changes, and, if necessary, further investigations or treatments.

Who Should Consider a Full Body MRI?

While full body MRI screening is a valuable tool for anyone who wants to take a proactive approach to their health, it can be particularly beneficial for individuals with:

Age and Lifestyle: As we age, the likelihood of developing certain health problems increases. Whole body MRI can be a valuable part of a comprehensive health assessment for adults, especially those with specific lifestyle factors like smoking, lack of exercise, or a poor diet.
Proactive Health Management: For individuals who are committed to preventive care and taking control of their health, a preventative full body MRI offers a powerful way to gain insights and make informed decisions. This is one of the biggest reasons that people are getting whole body MRI screenings.

There is a growing community of health-conscious consumers who believe in “proactive” healthcare and not “reactive” healthcare. These individuals get screened and hope for a clean bill of health, but are also prepared to handle surprises.

Nobody ever wants to be surprised; however, proactive minded individuals want to be made aware if there are abnormalities. They believe that early detection is the best protection. They take control of their health and refuse to sit back and wait for symptoms.

By the time symptoms are experienced from a disease like cancer, the disease is almost always advanced. This is why it is critical to remain proactive and undergo a preventative MRI screening when you are asymptomatic. Routine cancer screenings ordered by doctors only detect about 29% of cancers and 71% of cancers occur in other areas. This makes a full body screening powerful for detecting early cancers in areas like the pancreas, liver or brain, for example.

Full Body MRI Screening vs. Other Screening Methods

Holistic Approach: Whole body MRI screenings can be combined with other screening methods, such as blood tests and physical examinations, to create a comprehensive picture of your health. This integrated approach allows for a more thorough assessment and personalized health management.

A whole body MRI scan is a preventative MRI and does not replace routine screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies. Think of a whole body MRI screening as an additional tool that provides you with more information. It is a proactive and preventative measure.

Choosing a Full Body MRI Provider

When considering a full body MRI screening, it's essential to choose a reputable provider with:

Accreditation and Expertise: Look for facilities that are accredited by recognized organizations and staffed by experienced radiologists and technologists.
Technology and Equipment: Ensure the provider uses state-of-the-art MRI technology and high-field MRI scanners for optimal image quality and diagnostic accuracy. “Wide bore” and “short bore” MRI machines are much more comfortable than traditional sized machines.

A wide bore MRI has a 70 cm opening, which offers more space from shoulder to shoulder. It also offers much more space from your face to the ceiling of the MRI when lying on your back. A short bore means that the “tube” that you enter is shorter than traditional tubes. The benefit is that it is more comfortable with less feelings of claustrophobia. Your head is almost out of the machine during parts of the scan.

Cost, Insurance, Payment Plans: Inquire about the cost of the screening. A complete body MRI is not covered by insurance and is an elective, out of pocket investment in your health. Payment plans help offset the financial burden.

Ask the provider if they offer payment plans and ask if they have no interest financing.

Full Body MRI Myths and Common Concerns

Radiation Exposure: It's important to emphasize that MRI does not involve any radiation exposure. It uses magnets and radio waves, which are considered safe for the human body. This means whole body MRI scans are safe and you get repeat body scans without exposure to radiation.
Cost-Effectiveness: While the cost of a full body MRI may seem significant, it's crucial to view it as an investment in preventive care. Early detection can potentially save you from more costly treatments and healthcare expenses in the long run. Payments are usually less than $200 per month with no interest financing.
False Positives: Like any medical test, there's a possibility of false positive results. A false positive is a result that is determined to be negative or of no concern after additional evaluation. Your doctor can offer recommendations based on your full body MRI results and offer you guidance on whether you should get further testing.
False Negatives: There is also a chance that your whole body MRI screening can produce false negatives. Again, this is true with any medical test. A false negative is much more concerning than a false positive because this means that something was missed. You should always prefer a false positive over a false negative! Your physician will help interpret the results and recommend any necessary follow-up tests or procedures.

What is the Cost of a Full Body MRI Screening?

Screenings range from about $1,000 to more than $3,000 depending on the facility, the level of screening and how many body areas are being scanned.

Most whole body scans do not include the arms and legs. This is because it can become time and cost prohibitive.

In addition, a full body MRI is a proactive and preventative scan. If someone had a problem with their elbow or knee, then most likely a doctor would order an MRI of that specific joint for evaluation.

Most full body MRI scans are screening the body from the top of the head to mid-thigh. Scans include the head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, hips, shoulders and full spine.

There are smaller MRI screening packages available as well.

For example, at Bionicc Body Screening you can schedule a head and neck screening, which scans from the top of the head to the collar bone.

A torso screening is also available from Bionnicc Body Screening, which includes the chest, abdomen and pelvis.
